The volunteer committees of the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem are the “backbone” of the organization.

In order for the HBA to effectively promote the home building industry and continue to provide outstanding services and support to the membership, your help is needed with the committees listed below. Serving on any of these committees can provide you with unique and valuable opportunities to network with industry peers and contacts, develop leadership skills and serve your industry and community.

o Associate Members Committee
Chairperson: Elizabeth Nance, Co-Chair: Lisa Micheels
Time commitment: 1-2 hours a month, 2nd Thursdays

  • Advise the HBAWS Board of Directors, communicating associate members’ issues.
  • Sponsor activities to promote networking opportunities such as Associate Product Night and Builder & Associate Speed Meets.

Chairperson: Kathy Craven Snodgrass
Time commitment: 1 hour a quarter

  • Increase member and government official awareness of vital housing issues.
  • Support candidates on local, state, and national levels through fund-raiser efforts of members.

o Builder Committee – Lunch Break & Learn
Chairperson: Aaron Lange
$10 for lunch / per meeting – Builder Members Only
Time commitment: 1 hour a month

  • Identify and advocate the needs of the builder members of the association.

o Charitable Contributions Committee
Chairperson:  TBD
Time Commitment: To be determined

  • Continue the community outreach for the association following the charitable contributions committee plan.

o Education/Program Committee
Chairperson: Lee Riddle
Time commitment: 1-2 hours every other month

  • Study and make recommendations on the educational needs of members.
  • Research and provide membership meeting programs that are consistent with the goals of the association.

o Finance Committee
Chairperson: Vicky Slate
Time commitment: 1 hour a month

  • Exercise financial oversight of the HBA of Winston-Salem.

o NAHB Remodelers
President:Preston Harris
Annual Dues $100/annually, plus meals

Time commitment: 2 hours a month, 2nd Tuesdays

  • The Remodelers Council strives to provide consumers with a dependable service through which they can locate quality remodeling firms with reputable backgrounds. They meet for the purpose of education of their members and to build solid business leads.
  • Membership is limited to licensed builders or associate members of the HBAWS who have proven their dependability and trustworthiness through time in business and consumer satisfaction.

o Fall Parade of Homes
Chairperson: Angela Kalamaras
Time commitment: Varies depending on the sub-committee(s)

  • Plan, organize & produce annual Parade of Homes
  • Plan Fall Parade Breakfast at Association House
  • Plan and organize Golden Home Awards Celebration

o Social Committee
Chairperson:  Keely Richardson
Time commitment: 1 hour a month

  • Arrange and promote FUN activities for the membership,  i.e. golf outings and sporting clays tournaments.

o Membership Committee
Chairperson: Kathy Craven Snodgrass
Time commitment: 1 hour monthly meetings plus follow-up calls to be made after the meeting, 1st Wednesdays

  • Implement programs for membership development /retention.
  • Recognize and welcome new members.
  • Increase awareness of HBA services available through local, state and national resources.
  • Spike Club
    – Increased visibility, recognition and networking opportunities at networking events
    – Unique lapel pins for each level of achievement
    – Additional VIP opportunities throughout the year

o Spring Parade of Homes
Chairperson: Vicky Slate
Time commitment: 1-2 hours a month during the 1st quarter

  • Plan, organize, & produce annual spring marketing event for new home construction.
  • Plan Spring Parade Social

o Sponsors’ Club
Chairperson: Angela Kalamaras
Time commitment: 2 hours during the 1st and 4th quarters

  • Encourage funding to meet the hospitality and educational needs of the association through HBA member support.

o Triad Home & Garden Show
Chairperson: Missy Easter
Time commitment: 1-2 hours a month, Dec – Jan. Plan, organize, & produce annual show.

o Triad Green Building Council (TGBC)
Staff Liaison at the Greater Greensboro Builders Association

Annual Dues $75/annually
Time commitment: 1 hour each month-

  • The primary areas of focus for the TGBC is for education, marketing and public awareness of green residential construction. This council welcomes all members, builders and associates who want to encourage sustainability.

o Career Technical Education Committee
Chairperson:Ryan Froelich / Justin Draughn
Time commitment: 1 hour a quarter

  • Create awareness in the community for construction trade
  • Grow partnership with local schools and community college
  • Work with HBA committees and councils to raise funds to provide scholarships to students continuing their education in the construction field at the local community college
  • HBA wide fundraising through sponsors club and special events to provide tools for seniors graduating from carpentry, masonry and electrical courses in WSFCS
  • Sell student made items at Triad Home & Garden Show, showcase construction trades programs from community college and high school.
  • Attend Career Fairs at local schools to share our story and need for students to train and work in trades
  • Attend NCHBA Career Tech Education meetings quarterly

o Professional Women in Building
President: Amber Harris
Annual Dues: $100/annually
Time commitment: 2-3 hours a month, 1st Tuesdays

  • The Women’s Council is dedicated to supporting the professional development of women in the home building industry and providing charitable and in-kind donations to local community projects. The Council consists of women and men who are HBAWS members (builders and associates) and women and men who are affiliated with an HBAWS member (employees or extended family).
