State Required Continuing Education for GCs

Important Continuing Education Information!

Recently approved NC legislation requires individuals who qualify for a NC general contractor’s license [license classifications: Building, Residential, and Unclassified] {Building Qualifier only}, to complete 8 hours of continuing education each year, as a condition for license renewal, beginning with the 2021 license renewal.

Of the 8 hours required annually, 2 hours will consist of a NC Licensing Board for General Contractors produced mandatory course, and the remaining 6 hours of electives will be available from a preselected list of courses that will allow general contractors some choices. (These elective courses also qualify towards earning NCBI designations).

Providers and instructors are selected by the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors.

The NC Licensing Board for General Contractors is currently going through the process of selecting providers and instructors for this Continuing Education that begins May 2020.  We are pleased to announce that the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem has been selected and approved to be a Provider for the classes. You will find the latest updates on this page about classes offered by HBAWS as they are approved.

It is very important to enroll in the early classes vs. waiting until the end of the sessions (November 2020). There will be a large number of builders requiring these classes. We will be offering classes to any General Contractors – not just our members and class size will be limited.

Course information will be added soon. The courses offered are contingent upon approval by the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. If you wish to be put on an email list so that we notify you of upcoming classes, you may send an email to Darlene Saunders and once the classes are scheduled, we will contact you.  If you have immediate questions, please call the HBA office at 336.768.5942.
